Busting the Top 5 SEO Myths

10 June 2015

SEO is a dynamic field and gets updated every now and then. It might get tough for people to keep track what works now and how long will it be valid. What was considered to be the best practice yesterday may turn out to be totally outdated today. Such is the field of SEO. To make your SEO campaigns successful, it is necessary to be able to distinguish between the myths and reality in SEO.

To help you draw a line between what is true and what is not, we’ll talk about the Top 5 SEO Myths:

Myth#1 SEO is all about Organic Listings and Keywords: Keywords and on-page elements are old-fashioned now and hold no importance when it comes to SEO campaigns in today’s world. Title tags, Meta descriptions are waste of time; digital marketing is the way of SEO now and all that you have to consider is creating good quality content.

Myth #2 Reach the Top Position: Even a few years ago, SEO was considered successful if your site ranked no. 1 on the SERPs. Top positions matter even today but there are other factors to be considered. Today SEO is much more than a rat race for reaching the top – with new updates like Google Carousel, PLAs, etc. you can get a lot of advantages even if you are not number 1 on the SERPs.

Myth #3 SEO is a One Time Game: Update your website once and you’re done. Did you think this is all you got to do with SEO? You’ll be doing more harm than good if you do so. SEO is an on-going process, especially in times when there are constant algo updates going on. What works great today, might not help you tomorrow; so to keep up with the fast pace create fresh content and update your website regularly. Keep yourself updated with the algo changes and make changes to your website accordingly to survive the upheaval.

Myth #4 SEO Tools are Great: While it is good to use SEO tools as part of your SEO campaign, it is never suggested to become dependent on such automated systems. Tools are programmed to work one way, if there are changes it will not be able to respond accordingly. So use tools to measure the success of your campaigns and take help from professionals to adjust it accordingly.

Myth #5 Links are Dead: Many people are of the opinion that links have no importance in today’s SEO. But that’s just a myth. Today, the quality of link is given more importance than the quantity. Links are still important and links from authority sites can work wonders for your website.

So now that you know about the myths of SEO, you can plan your SEO campaigns better. Many people have believed the rumours and have ended up being nowhere. Educate yourself about the updates and work accordingly; that way you’ll see great results.
