Cyber Essentials Support for Small Businesses
We set up and configure the technical controls and provide evidence of compliance, so you are ready for your Cyber Essentials assessment.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme that helps businesses protect themselves against common online threats. It focuses on five basic technical controls and is assessed by an approved certification body. Many customers, insurers and tenders now ask suppliers to hold it, and it is a practical, affordable way to show that your IT is looked after.

The five technical controls
- Firewalls: protect your internet connection and devices from unauthorised access.
- Secure configuration: set up devices and software securely, removing unnecessary accounts and settings.
- User access control: give people only the access they need, with strong sign-in protection.
- Malware protection: keep devices protected against viruses and other malicious software.
- Security update management: keep operating systems and applications up to date with security fixes.
How we help
- Technical set-up and configuration: we put the technical controls in place across your devices, accounts and Microsoft 365, so your systems meet the scheme's requirements.
- Evidence of compliance: we provide evidence that the technical controls are in place, so you have what you need ready for your assessment.
- Ongoing technical support: monitoring, updates and backups keep those controls working after the assessment, not just on the day.
What we do not do: we do not carry out the Cyber Essentials assessment itself, and we are not approved to give wider certification guidance. The assessment is completed with an approved certification body of your choice. We look after the technical side.

Cyber Essentials - your questions answered
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK government-backed scheme that sets out five basic technical controls to help protect businesses from common online threats. Businesses can be certified against it, and many customers and tenders ask suppliers to hold it.
Do you carry out the Cyber Essentials assessment?
No. We do not carry out the assessment ourselves. It is better to have someone independent mark the work, a bit like getting someone else to mark your homework, so the assessment is carried out by an approved certification body. We help with the technical side: setting up and configuring the controls and providing evidence of compliance.
Are you Cyber Essentials certified yourselves?
Yes. IT Consultancy, Services & Solutions Ltd is Cyber Essentials certified, so we work to the same controls we help our clients put in place.
Can you help if we use Microsoft 365?
Yes. Microsoft 365 is our speciality, and we can configure accounts, sign-in protection and device settings to meet the technical controls.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the number of users and devices and how much needs doing. We are happy to talk it through first - we do not bill for a quick chat about an IT solution - and we can quote for the technical work after that.
Do you help businesses of any size?
We support businesses from one-person operations up to teams of around 50, in any sector.
