Configure Filezilla for Secure Encrypted FTP

14 May 2015

If you are running a website or blog, the chances are that you used an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) connection to upload your files to your website hosting providers servers.

As with everything you do on the internet you should take steps to make sure your data is being transmitted securely and the easiest way to do that is to use encrypted FTP.

Here are the settings required to setup encrypted FTP access when hosting with us.
The first thing you need to download is an FTP client such as Filezilla

Once downloaded and installed you need to configure Filezilla to use TLS encryption for file transfers.

To Configure Filezilla for FTPS Explicit

  1. Open Filezilla.
  2. Click Open the Site Manager.
  3. Click New Site, and then in the My Sites section enter the domain name.
  4. In the Host field, enter the server name that was in your welcome email.
  5. From the Encryption list, select Require explicit FTP over TLS.
  6. From the Logon Type list, select Normal.
  7. In the User field, enter your username.
  8. In the Password field, enter your password.
  9. Go to the Transfer Settings tab.
  10. In the Transfer Mode section, select Passive, and then click OK.
  11. To test the connection, click Open the Site Manager, and then select the domain name.
  12. Click Connect, and then click OK.

Congratulations! you are now sending your files using an encrypted connection.
